***Updated to announce winner by Random.com is #10 Belinda. Belinda has 48 hours to respond by email or a new winner will be pulled. Thank you all for entering, I sure appreciate your participation. I hope that you all have a chance to use Norton’s awesome software and come back for the next contest.*
Norton software is pretty much synonymous with computer/internet security…and there is nothing I want safe more than my children.
I was once helping Nathaniel Google information for a project on Indian villages and one seemingly innocent click led us to a nasty porn site. I nearly knocked him out slapping my hand over his eyes as quickly as I could. I couldn’t believe it and was thoroughly horrified.
Norton has a fix for this kind of thing…built-in safety for YOUR family with Norton Online Family. We have two ancient desktop pc’s for our girls and a laptop for our son and there’s a lot of setup to cover every computer, but OH SO worth it.
Installing the program on their computers allows me to have one web interface that I can use to control all their web activity: websites, emails, IM’s, social media, and stuff they’re not even trying yet. I can see what they’ve been to, if they’ve tried to access inappropriate things and I can set up each child with different access according to age and maturity.
Click on picture to check out the interface
This past weekend, I was out of town at a conference and I was able to see what was going with my kids and their computer use…which, as far as I’m concerned, the more aware I am regarding their usage, the safer they are.
If you’d like to start keeping your family safe, you can download the Norton software and use promo code: ACC10. You won’t regret it.

My daughter is a bit young right now, but is already showing an interest in “doing what mommy does” online. I can see how this Norton software would be useful in monitoring what is actually seen online.
The IPod touch would be icing on the cake!

My husband and I try to monitor everything our children are exposed to, but it’s hard when the oldest comes home from school with difficult questions. Granted, she’s only three, but I’d like to keep her as sheltered as I can for as long as possible, especially since she has a younger brother who wants to do everything she does! Yes, the Norton software would be valuable for us for many years to come, and I’d LOVE an iPod touch

We keep a close eye on our boys and their internet time and surfing - we have set up protection for them however, we know there is always a way for the wrong things to get in so the boys have laptops and must set next to us on a couch or at a table so that we can monitor what they are doing

OMG!!! Staying in touch with the boys when they are not with me is super important. When my oldest is walking to and from school, he brings what we have dubbed the “family” phone with him - he and I both feel a lot safer knowing he can call if he is running late or wants to stay after for an activity, I like to be able to reach him in between…because we all know that kids can take forever to get from point a to point b.
I’d love the touch simply because it’d be mine…all mine and since my husband and oldest son both have iPods, I think it is only fair!
What a cool give-away! And we already use Norton software, love it!

My 14yo would spend 23 hrs of her day on MySpace if we let her. I joined three months before I let her join. I have her password & whenever she changes it, she leaves a note under my keyboard. I pop on randomly to see what’s going on with her page.
I’ve built a computer for her brothers w/XP & hers and theirs are setup for remote access via mine. So I can pop in on them without ever leaving the room.
I also set up User Accounts for the younger kids, limiting their access. This software would make it possible for me to update my methods as the Geek Mommy Spy on their internet activities..
Mwahahahaa. *ahem*. So, yeah, this would be a wonderful addition to my software arsenal.
Good luck to us all!

Open communication!! Granted I don’t have any kiddos yet, but I do have a 7 y/o niece! I would prefer her to come ask me questions and then give her the appropriate answers. It also helps to do research on the websites that the kiddos may be using. I would definitely steer clear of wikipedia! That site shows some pretty graphic pictures!!
HOw do I stay in the loop with my kids? You mean there comes a day they won’t be constantly under my feet? OMG! I think the only thing that might help me recover from this shock is an iPod Touch.

I check their history after they have been on the computer. And since they use my laptop most days they are sitting right next to me. As for my 14 year old, any “group” that she belongs to, I need to have access as well or I will block that site.
And and iPod Touch-do you know how long I have been coveting one of these. I tried to trade my Land’s end bag that I won to one of the winner’s of the iPod touch but they didn’t think it was that great of a trade.

I find myself sitting right next to my 7 1/2 year old grandson while he is online. You know there was a time, seems like oh, so long ago, that I felt I was pretty computer literate. But, lucky enough to be in the same job for so many years, I have not had a reson to continue to learn all the new stuff and keep up with the technology that is not necessary outside the job. I find that he can get to places and find things that I sometimes cannot, and it worries me…hence my sitting with him. At times I have to make him put away the computer so I can do something like make dinner! He does use my cell phone, too, but I double check every number he dials before he is allowed to complete the call. I will definitely be upgrading my currrent Norton system to include this package. He operates electronics better than me now but the I-Touch would be heaven for us both.

My kids are grown and out of the house so hopefully they are old enough to know better
I wish I would have had something like this when they were younger. I have to admit, I sometimes peeked at their emails to see what was going on. I actually did send one kid an email back, with a few choice words about the language he was using. I got into trouble with my daughter over that one, but i would do it again in a minute! I had to self monitor and check the history of the computer. Not always effective, but it did work! Keep up the good work, I enjoy reading your blog!

I just have kept the computer where I can see it, and limit their time on it. But as my kids get older, I can see there being more of a problem. This might be a great option for us.
Meagan loves to play on the computer, but has not been able to surf the web just yet without us being there. This software would allow me to give her a bit of freedom with my laptop!

I am really considering purchasing this product. We have a 13 year old and 7 1/2 year old. Our 13 year old has already been contacted by someone posing as a teenager. It was horribly scary and I think something like this Norton product would take care of that! Needless to say, she is not allowed online unless one of us is in the room with her, supervising her at ALL times. It’s a scary world out there!

what a great review and great giveaway. We constantly give reminders to our kids regarding what is OK and not OK to access online and when it’s ok for them to be surfing the internet. We talked about naughty things that are available and showed them how to use the favorites buttons to keep good websites available and easy to get. I also just simply try to be around when they are online–never leave them to it alone, never at night, never when a babysitter is here, etc.
Thanks for the chance. =)

At 3 years old, Zoe is just getting really interested in going online. She loves “her” computer sites… and visits NickJr and Playhouse Disney as often as we let her. She’s still learning her mouse skills… and random clicks sometimes take her off track. This would be great. For now… we sit with her while she uses the internet. It’s still amazing to me that preschoolers have such great computer abilities now.

My 5 year old was recently diagnosed with Aspergers after being misdiagnosed for almost 3 years. He loves and does well at games on the computer. But he also tends to accidently click on things he sees advertised. Having Norton would keep us from having to worry so much about him being on the computer.
As far as the Ipod touch we could not afford to buy one as we dont even afford health insurance and pay for all his expenses out of pocket. So that would be the greatest thing to have.

As a parent neither my daughter (when she was younger) or my son now are allowed unchaperoned access to the internet, ever. Computers aren’t in kid’s rooms, screens are always visible. Parents who rely on software to do their job for them are the same kind of people who bitch when the school won’t raise their children. Be a parent, 100% of the time.

We had a similar situation with one our kids using a PUBLIC SCHOOL library computer. We don’t currently use the Norton software, but my husband, the computer geek of the family, will check it out. With 8 kids, safety is always a priority. And the I-Pod Touch…man, would I be the Queen momma if I brought that into the house!
Thanks… Lisa and the gang
Now that my son is 15 it is much harder to monitor the internet. I am a huge checker of history as he is not allowed to delete it, only I am. So far that is working. the I-Pod would be great as long as I don’t get grounded!!!
The kids can only use a website from their school (that I have saved in our favorites) to play games. I double check the history when they are though to make sure they are “following the rules”

Oh to have little ones again! Since my sone is 25 and does not live at home, I have no idea what he is looking at on the internet. However, if I did have children, I would certainly put this on my computer. I myself do searches for sites that are not porn but then the next day I am getting Emails for Viagra and God knows what else! So maybe I should invest in this product and then maybe those Emails would stop.
Thanks for the chance to comment and I would love to win any contest.

I have a growing family of 4 children. I also homeschool them. While I am busy teaching the 3 younger ones my 13 yo son is doing his own research on his laptop. Though we have a basic filter I still don’t trust it 100%. It would be very nice to have this program. I can teach in peace. Checking history is not always a daily thing I get to. So, it would be a huge blessing to our family. the iPod would be a huge treat. With a pay per min plan for the 13 yo and an old cell for the teacher mom it would definitely be a royal gift.

Thank you for sharing this software with us. These kind of programs are essential when you have kids. Many times I myself have been googling a subject and end up at the wrong site. Just imagine what a child could do. I only wish the government pushed to have these sites on their own domain.

Oh how I would love to get the Norton Software to keep the kiddos safe. I think it’s very neat to be able to monitor what they are doing and from a distance at that. I have four kids with the oldest being 8 and already he’s pretty computer savvy. Anything to keep the kids safe and this software does just that! Wish me luck
Love these contests, just now wish I could win one!

Also, An IPod touch would be fun to have with all of my music, pics, and games in one place! I could also use the navigation system on there. Thanks!!

I am the mom of a preteen son and a ten year old daughter. My daughter is pretty limited to Nick.com, Club Penguin and Disney. My son is a whole different story. He used to be limited to sports sites (Sports Illustrated, team websites etc). However, he recently discovered YouTube. YIKES! Right now, our security system consists of either me or my husband sitting in the room with him. I would love a program that allowed BOTH of us a little more freedom

I keep in the loop with my kids by checking the internet history and talking to them about where they are allowed to go on the internet. I think this software would help alot with keeping tabs on what they are doing, better than just talking to them or looking at something that they could have deleted items from.
Stuart wrote @ March 4th, 2009 at 5:38 am
I think this is a great feature and will come in handy with a lot of households worldwide providing their children with home computers and laptops. With the ammount of free content available on the internet (in all genres), and the computer literacy of todays children, you need to keep an eye on what they are looking at and for online.
I dont have kids of my own (yet) but I will be steering my friends (who do) in the direction of this software!
Good idea!

We try to stay in the loop with our son’s online activity by directlly monitoring him, but I think this software would really help for the times we can’t be next to him.

Right now, I am using K9 Web Protection, but this has many features I don’t have. This software would help me keep track of what they’re doing when I’m not home, though! Thanks for the opportunity!
Since my kid is still pretty little, I’m an over the shoulder mom while she’s on the computer (mainly to make sure she doesn’t print 150 coloring pages). But as she grows, this certainly seems like something we’d need.

I would love an iPod Touch. I’m a college student, and don’t have any kids. I do have protective software on my computer to block pop up ads and other things that I don’t want to be viewing online.
ok, so I’ll comment and I’ll one up you, I’ll subscribe too. I didn’t know about this blog of yours!
WoW! Technology! It is amazing we survived childhood without all this stuff huh?My boys Joey (10) and Sammy (12) have cell phones. They call/text me from the cul-de-sac and on the bus! I feel much better knowing I can be in touch with my babies all the time
Thanks for turning me on to this Norton Online Family that allows me to keep track of them without having to have them use the computer right next to me saying, ” Mom, Mom look at this, look look Mom …” as I desperately sit here and try to finish my work! lol Of course Sammy (12) was begging me for a IPod touch for his birthday to which I had to say No, not unless Mommy can have one too! This IPod touch would not only help me keep up with the kids but also my business, which will give me more time with the kids! It’s a no brainer! Win win situation! Who doesn’t love that!? Your the bomb diggity! (Ok, that last line was just blatant sucking up, but you can’t blame a girl for trying?)
The kids and I keep touch with cell phones. I LOVE facebook and my daughter wanted a page as well. I have to be very careful monitoring her transactions on the computer. My boys play an online game that involves chatting with friends. I also work from home so with the multiple ways our family uses the computer I need a good security suite to protect us.

I remember putting parental controls on AOL once upon a time. Had to lift them so my firstborn could look up stuff he was curious about. Reminds me of how I signed a consent to allow both of the boys to check out adult books on their cards at the public library.
the last thing I want to do is control my children’s lives. I’ve developed a relationship with them thatś based on trust. Part of trust involves giving them some latitude to make their own decisions and mistakes.

How do I stay in touch with my kids?
Well, since Noah just turned six and Kiel is only 15 months we don’t use anything high tech. Our methods are the tried and true sit down over a meal and talk as a family kind. My husband gets Noah breakfast in the morning and that is their time together, while I’m getting Kiel ready. Then I have time with Noah while we are waiting for his bus to come. Noah and I usually have some good talks then. The drive home after school is also a great time for us to hear how Noah’s day was. Then at dinner we all share with each other what happened to us that day. It’s cute how Noah will go around the table and ask each one of us in turn, even Kiel, who doesn’t talk yet. Noah just makes up something for Kiel to say.
As for the Norton software we aren’t at a point where we need it yet, but you better believe I’ll be all over it when we are!

I was in the ‘corprate world’ for 8 months before my husband took a new job which forced us to move. The only perk to that job was having a blackberry. I became hooked on being in total contact. Now, I am spending WAY TOO MUCH TIME sitting in the living room on my laptop because I miss all my old friends back home. The iTouch would allow me to keep up while being outside and not missing the heartwarming texts and emails from my long-lost Tennesseans!

I’m in. My two are pretty litte and their forays onto the Interwebs are pretty much limited to sproutonline.com, pbskids.com and barbie.com (I know you want some of that birthday fun!) For now, their internet access is limited to my computer and they can’t get to it. When they do get old enough, the computer’s gonna stay in a common area (not a bedroom) and screening software will be undoubtedly be installed. By that time, who knows what they’ll come up with!

Having two teenage girls I try to keep a close eye on where they surf on the net and limit when and what they can access. I do have a parental control on the laptop but having this new program could make it easier and quicker to see where they have been and what they are getting into.
Would love a new ipod, after mine got stolen!
Norton Online Family looks interesting…ill take a look too.
So, okay, I don’t have kids. But I am totally contemplating it now that I know about Norton’s online protection. Seriously - sounds like a fantastic product, one that should become a standard baby registry item for new parents. The internet has added a completely new element of parenting and certainly this product will make it easier.
Why should I win the IPOD Touch? Because I will fill it with only safe, clean music and videos. No Britney Spears, the radio version of that Missy Midemeanor Elliott song and the formatted for TV version of The Breakfast Club where it’s all “Flip You. No, Flip You.”

lol. I guess it’s time to be more careful now. Thanks for the share!
Get out and do a family activity. Ride a bike, go fishing, go to the park, take a walk, and more. If they are watching too many violent stuff on the computer, tell them that you care and love them and you don’t want any thing bad to happen to them. They might listen to you, and might not. Do some type of protection program to stop them from doing into any thing to violent. Show them something fun to do on the computer that isn’t violent. I’m sorry if my comment doesn’t work. thank you.

I found this blog very important and very interesting.
Nice tool for internet security and control. Computer activities are
monitored by the software client and reports are published online. The
amazing feature of this software is that it can define when children have
access to a computer. Parents can define range of hours when children
are blocked. Children receive a warning 15 minutes prior before blocks
begin or a time limit is exceeded.

Symantec’s Norton AntiVirus software is perhaps the world’s most trusted antivirus solution. It is available for both Windows PC’s, and Macintosh (Symantec Antivirus for Macintosh - S.A.M). Norton AntiVirus is a very reliable and easy-to-use anti-virus product. It’s the best anti-virus product for catching viruses in downloaded files and E-mail. Norton AntiVirus is also more expensive than McAfee VirusScan although not by much, and the added abilities of Norton can easily make up the difference.
