If Sarah McLachlan and Martina McBride’s voices had a baby, I imagine it would sound like Linda Eder. A voice rich and sultry, mixing a blend of contemporary adult and that slight-crossover-country sound that appeals across the board.

Her lyrics are strong and positive, songs about love, strength, finding one’s self. Each song on her “The Other Side of Me” cd is unique and mood altering. Whether you are looking for a song to fit a bright afternoon drive in a convertible or a rainy day in a quiet room, Linda provides them all. However, I don’t have moments like that, so it works that her music is fabulous to just spark on in the car, we can sing (not well, but volume makes up for tune, right?) along and be relaxed by her soothing voice.
Linda’s Broadway background made me think that her music might be out of my normal taste, but this CD with it’s pop/country sound that gives a peek into the true powerhouse range of her voice and songwriting yet is radio audience friendly. (You can give her sound a teeny sample here)
If I’m not introducing you to anything new and you’ve been a Linda Eder fan for eons…which would show how much smarter than me you are…make sure to check out the tour dates she has scheduled.
WIN WIN WIN!

Here’s one song that blows me away. every. single. time.
Brudda Iz, Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, has a version with a medley of Somewhere Over the Rainbow/It’s A Wonderful World that just blows me away. The hospital musicians performed it at the memorial service in September.
It never fails to move me to tears.

Eek! I just found out about this contest opportunity mere seconds ago and realized I’d better type fast, lest I miss out as the deadline is rapidly approaching!
Oh yeah and duh! Here’s the song that totally swept me away–I think the most powerful one I can think of right now is Martina McBride’s In My Daughter’s Eyes. I become the biggest mush imaginable every time I hear this one, especially because I’ve been blessed with my own house full of daughters, including a wee one still in diapers. I love each and every one more and more every day and want them to grow to be beautiful, strong, caring women, and always know how much they mean to me.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go listen to the song and blubber like a baby!

The song “I believe” by Diamond Rio is one that moves me every time I hear it - intrinsically beautiful, it comforts my heart even though it almost always makes me cry.

Song that has most recently blown me away?
Our 3, 4, and 5 year olds practicing “Away in a Manger” while our women’s Bible study was down the hall. In a quiet moment, we could hear them and it gave me goose bumps!
The song that has swept me away is Bette midlers version of Wind Beneath My Wings. This song has always been a favorite of mine… 3 years ago it was played at the funeral of my mom’s best friend who was murdered.. kind of made it hard to EVER hear it again. I heard it again for the first time a few months ago since the funeral, but was on a super fun trip with friends so it gave it a new memory
